SETTING PRIMER
CORINTHE SECTOR “It is with a heavy heart that I inform you that the light of the Astronomican has gone dark. The very fabric of space has been torn asunder by the foul machinations of the enemy, and the warp now blinds us to the Emperor’s brilliance. However, our faith shall not falter, and we shall remain resolute in these dark times. We may be beset on all sides by innumerable foes, but once this has passed, we shall show all others that not only did Corinthe survive, but we thrived in this galaxy that knows only war.”

Corinthe, occasionally confused for the more famous Corinth, is a planet in the center of segmentum ultima, and relatively unknown. As the capital of the Corinthe sector and its own self-named system, it is the headquarters of battlefleet Corinthe, but calling it a fleet is very generous. As with most other things Corinthe produces and provides for the Imperium, it ends up shipped elsewhere. There's no need for grand fleets in the Corinthe sector, and the one time there was, they had to call in outside help just to deal with the problem.
But there is something that people didn't realize about Corinthe prior to the cicadix maledictum ripping the Imperium apart — Corinthe truly provided a great deal for the war efforts elsewhere. Now, with no ability to transport those resources, manpower, and warmachines across the immaterium, they are gathering at home and as the forces of chaos muster and turn their eyes towards the system that never really knew war, they are poised to learn that Corinthe may be far more dangerous than it first appeared.
Under the leadership of Thaddeus Mora, high monarch of Corinthe, the system has ramped up production on its fleet, increased recruitment, and began diversifying their grand forges. Rationing is now enforced, work hours extended as far as they dare, and disciplining is stricter than ever before. If Corinthe is to survive, she will need to be strong, and Thaddeus knows that.
Allies from all over arrive at Corinthe as the warp becomes too dangerous to traverse, and the high monarch marshals all available forces to create the greatest army the sector has ever seen. However, they are not alone, for allies are not the only ones coming to Corinthe, the enemy is also on the doorstep.
But Corinthe stands ready!
FACTION PRESENCE This section details, in extreme brief, which factions are present in the Corinthe Sector, as well as the Corinthe system, and in what capacity. At the onset, only a handful of factions are available, but eventually, all will have a presence as the sector descends into total war. THE IMPERIUM OF MANThe grand Imperium of Man, spanning the galaxy and its multitude of worlds, is the primary focus of Corinthean Dawn, and has the most significant presence in the Corinthe Sector. Corinthe, a world of teeming billions, is a major staging point and headquarters for many sub-factions within the Imperium, and will likely become more prominent as time goes on.
The Adeptus Arbites The peacekeepers of the Imperium are present on many worlds, and in the Corinthe system, they can be found on all inhabited worlds. Two noteworthy outliers are Corinthe itself, and Tiryn.
Tiryn's aribtes are replaced by feudal lawmen and secret police beholden to local lords. Most, if not all, have served in the Imperial Guard and survived, earning their great respect and authority on their homeworld.
On Corinthe, the plethora of barons who own territories within the massive hives often act as judges in place of the Adeptus Arbites, and their investigators, enforcers, and troopers are often little more than private armies of low-level thugs wearing the baron's colors. Deeper in the hives, and in places the barons don't care about, the Adeptus Arbites maintains more traditional precincts and frequently clash with the over-confident and often untrained baronial footpads.
The Adeptus Astartes The space marines, the greatest of the Emperor's warriors, may not have a home world in the Corinthe System, but the Aurora Chapter's home world of Firestorm is further out in the Sector. The Sons of Orar's home world is in a neighboring sector, and both chapters likely rely on Corinthe's spanning forges for some of their armaments, equipment, and vehicles.
Corinthe's location between Ultrammar and Kar Duniash means it falls upon a common travel path for numerous space marines, predominantly successor chapters of the Ultramarines, but any number of chapters could drop from the warp on Corinthe's doorstep, cut off from their home worlds and battle brothers.
The Astra Militarum Corinthe has always been an exporter of manpower, and many of its citizens are found serving in the guard across the galaxy. However, cut off from the rest of the Imperium, Corinthe will be required to defend itself. In doing so, they will rely upon the Astra Militarum. Most will invariably be from the Corinthe sector, but stragglers and others stranded in the area might end up mixed in.
The Corinthe system has two very distinct regiments. The Corinthean Guard, raised from Corinthe's hives, are no different than any other hastily raised regiments. Shoddily equipped, poorly trained, and woefully unprepared for the threats the galaxy would throw at them. Faith is their shield, and likely a better one than their flak armor.
The feudal world of Tiryn, Corinthe's neighbor, has one of the most zealous, fanatical, and overly militaristic populations outside of Cadia. They live and breathe warfare, and every man, woman, and child dreams of serving in the guard. The Tirynese Chosen are not like the people of Corinthe, they are consummate soldiers: disciplines, skilled, well-equipped, and dedicated to the cause.
These two fighting bodies do not see eye-to-eye, and certainly do not get along.
The Adeptus Mechanicus As a forgeworld, Corinthe has no shortage of Adeptus Mechanicus personnel, and both of its moon's are fully under their control. The Imperial Guard will often find themselves joined in battle by the legions of skitarii and constructs of the legio cyberentica.
The Adepta Sororitas The Corinthe system is home to a convent of the Order of the Ardent Shroud, one of the ordos militant of the Adepta Sororitas. These battle sisters share the moon of Sikyoni with the Emperor's Inquisition.
On Corinthe proper, the Order of the Key, a member of the ordo famulous, has been maintaining the genealogies of the great houses for millennia, and their archives are nothing short of labyrinthine. A convent of the Order of Serenity, of the ordo hospitaller, has made its home on Corinthe and provides their services to the Astra Militarum and others in need.
The Emperor's Inquisition Sikyoni, moon of Velon, is a local headquarters for the Emperor's Inquisition has a respectable presence on staff for the Ordo Hereticus. From their bastion on the moon, they operate across the Corinthe Sector. With the great rift splitting the heavens, the ordo may have their work cut out for them, and they may not be able to keep up.
The Navis Imperialis Battlefleet Corinthe has defended the Corinthe Sector for millenia, but Corinthe has often been a safe region with few noteworthy threats. Because of that, most of Corinthe's ship production was used to supplement the production of Kar Duniash, the segmentum fortress, which meant Battlefleet Corinthe was often stretched thin, so much so, that when a Spacehulk showed up in the latter half of M41, they had to call for help to deal with it.
Battlefleet command is found on Corinthe, but Arkhaion, one of the twin fortress moons, is the primary staging point. With much of the fleet scattered across the sector, and already underpowered at that, Corinthe and her moons will need to ramp up production in order to keep the sector safe.
The Questor Imperialis The Imperial Knights of House Mora and their subordinate houses are the co-rulers of Corinthe. While the Adeptus Mechanicus reign over their forges and provide House Mora with their knights, House Mora lords over the hives and provides nearly limitless manpower for the factories, voidships, and armies.
House Mora is an old house, and has its share of odd traditions and quirks, but has done well in maintaining Corinthe since the earliest days. Now, with Corinthe cut off from the rest of the galaxy, House Mora will have a chance to prove themselves, and see if they can keep their people and home safe.
THE ORK HORDESOrks are everywhere, or at least it seems to be that way. The Corinthe Sector rests on the edge of a region teeming with orks, however, most are feral and lacking in leadership. Some speculate that they are the remnants of a failed WAAAGH!! or an Ork empire that collapsed long ago.
Most planets in the Corinthe Sector have at least some ork presence, even Corinthe itself, which seems unable to rid some of the underhives of ork presence for good. Bands of feral orks tend to pop up once in a while and go to war with the underhive gangs until they are squashed by the guard.
THE TYRANID SWARMSCorinthe is no stranger to the Tyranids or genestealers. In 747.M41 they came under threat from a space hulk, the Bringer of Sorrow, as they were already dealing with a tendril of Hive Fleet Moloch. Though both were resolved, the Tyranid threat has always loomed in the region, and feral tyranids can be found on most planets in small quantities, and genestealer cults are purged from the hives every once in a while.
Now, a tendril of Hive Fleet Leviathan, Hive Fleet Kronos, once more threatens Corinthe, though they do not yet know the severity. Kronos, however, is not necessarily there for Corinthe, or even for the Imperium. They are particularly suited and specialized for dealing with the forces of Chaos. It is only a matter of time before they become a significant threat.
THE FORCES OF CHAOSWith the fall of Cadia and the galaxy torn asunder by the Cicatrix Maledictum, it should be no surprise to anyone that the forces of Chaos grow stronger and bolder. Daemons rip their way out of the immaterium, heretics creep from the shadows in every corner, and the traitor legions prepare to march upon every bastion of man to finally destroy their ancient foes.
However, they've found that it might not be as easy as they thought. The forces of the galaxy array against them. New alliances are forged, and their campaigns grind to a halt or move at a much slower pace than their daemonic overlords demand. Their threat, however, is constantly growing, and Corinthe may not be prepared to handle it.
THE NECRON DYNASTYWhile there are no necrons in the Corinthe sector, they are disturbingly close. The Sautekh Dyansty, among the strongest of the necron dyansties, is nearby, and embroiled in battles against the forces of chaos around the Ygma Monolith and nearby sectors.
If Corinthe ends up unlucky, the battles between necrons and Chaos might spill over into the sector, and if that happens, it might be too late.
THE AELDARI HOSTThe Aeldari, or Eldar, have not yet shown their faces in the Corinthe sector, but the skeins of fate are ever spinning, weaving tapestries that tell new prophecies, and it could be only a matter of time before those prophecies lead their war hosts to Corinthe.
THE DRUKHARI RAIDERSThere's never been much of an issue with the Drukhari, or Dark Eldar. As raiders, they occasionally appear and raid shipping lanes and harass planets, but no major threat has arisen. However, unlike their slightly less evil cousins, they are not as disturbed by the expansion of chaos, but perhaps growing more aggressive for it.
THE T'AU EMPIREThe T'au currently have no presence in the Corinthe sector, but the Nem'yar Atoll of the fourth and fifth spheres of expansion lies more-or-less between Corinthe and Kar Duniash. It would be no surprise to see these xenos show up near Corinthe at some point.
